Cala Pregonda
Most beloved bay of Veligandu´s skipper and beside Cala Algayerens the most wonderful bay, one can imagine.
A dreamy sandy bay, perfect holding, cristalwater and and and.... just wonderful, as long, as the weather is calm or southwinds!
So, always take care of the weather if you moor in one of the northbays, especially if you want to stay overnight.
The Tramontana (Mistral) starts immediately, attacks the sailor out of a clear blue sky and then, the only thing is to flee at once. In case of Cala Pregonda, the alternative is Fornells or, if you have less than 1.10m draught, Puerto Nitge.
Pregonda itself is a bit complicated to steer in:
coming from W, you leave Isles Bledes on starboard and take a SE course long the coast onto Cala Pregonda, which is difficult to identify.
Good landmarks are a wonderful house at the beach, very unique with a roof, running down to the ground and a not even less impressive big house at the westside of the bay.
Pass the islets, lying in front of the cala, until you aswell have the big Isla Pregonda at starboard; then steer into the bay.
Coming from E, take the passage between Isla Nitge and the mainland. Then steer on a SW-course onto a point, right of the islands in front of Cala Pregonda, to avoid connection to the undeep, lying just in front of Cala Binimel-a.
In Cala Pregonda you can drop anchor whereever you want, bottom is sand, depths are mostly 5 m, towards the beach 2m, perfect holding.
People say, there are (have been?) turtles in the dunes behind the beach, unfortunately we were not lucky enough to see them.
The bay offers good shelter against all winds except NW-N-NE. A strong E may find its way round Cabo Caballeria and reach the bay as a NE.
